Starting her career as a print model, Nimrat moved to doing theater with directors Sunil Shanbag and Manav Kaul in Mumbai. She has been part of plays like Baghdad Wedding (2012), All About Women and Red Sparrow.Her Cannes' first was with Anurag Kashyap's production Peddlers in 2012, followed by The Lunchbox with Irrfan Khan, which was screen at 2013 Cannes Film Festival.Kaur was born in Pilani, Rajasthan.
Her father worked with the Indian Army, so she also lived and studied in Bathinda and Patiala, including at Yadavindra Public School,
Patiala. In 1994, her father was killed in a terrorist attack in
Kashmir. Thereafter, her mother started living in Delhi-suburb, Noida, where she grew up and did her schooling from Delhi Public School, Noida. After that she studied at Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University, and started taking part in local theatre.She has a younger sister, Rubina Singh.After her studies Kaur moved to Mumbai made her career as a print model, and started to doing theater with directors Sunil Shanbag and Manav Kaul in Mumbai. She has been part of plays like Baghdad Wedding (2012), All About Women and Red Sparrow.
She started her screen career with music video for song, "Tera Mera Pyaar" by Kumar Sanu and Shreya Ghoshal of the Indipop album by the same name, in 2002.
Thereafter she continued acting in Mumbai theatre scene and TV advertisements.
