She became popular through the television series Marimayam in which she portrayed a character named Valsala madam.She began her career in 2001 by acting in a small role as the heroine's friend in the critically acclaimed movie Theerthadanam. Though it was a small role, Rachana considers it as a gratifying experience to have begun her career through a film scripted by M. T. Vasudevan Nair. After her studies, she joined radio as an RJ where a producer spotted her and cast her in 'Marimayam'. She also hosted a comedy show in Mazhavil Manorama called Comedy Festival.Rachana was born on April 4, 1983 in Thrissur City to Narayanankutty and Narayani. Rachana completed her schooling from GGHS Wadakanchery in 1998, and she completed her graduation from Sri Vyasa NSS College, Wadakanchery. Rachana had only intended to act in a single episode of Marimayam, was taken aback by the overwhelming response her character got, and decided to continue.She is the youngest of her parents and she has a brother named Rajinikanth. She married Arun Sadasivan in January 2011. She filed for divorce in family court on 14 March 2012. She took dance classes before she was cast in the television series.
